REHABILITATION

If you are already experiencing pain, injury, or are recovering from a surgery, this is the phase for you.

Evaluation

Your initial visit will begin with a discussion to help me understand the history of your injury and how it interferes with your function.  The information you provide me will help guide your physical assessment.

During your physical assessment, I will work to determine the underlying cause of your injury, discover how it impacts all of the systems in your body, and consider how it affects your overall movement. I will take the time to explain all of my findings to you so you will be well-informed and will have a clear understanding of your impairments.

Using the assessment findings and based on your movement goals, together we will discuss a treatment plan for you. If needed, I will recommend a team approach to your intervention integrating massage, chiropractic care, and/or acupuncture for optimal results.

Intervention

All in-clinic interventions will be one-on-one, hands-on treatment with a focus on enhancing your movement function. I will test your movement abilities before and after treatment to ensure progress is being made.

For an existing injury there will be an additional focus on preventing unfavorable compensatory movements that might be giving you short-term relief but are counter-productive in the long run. I will provide you with the educational insight and exercises to maintain and enhance all in-clinic treatment so that with each visit we will build on the progress made in earlier appointments.

Continued Care

Your graduation from physiotherapy will be determined by your ability to achieve your intended functional goals.  I will offer you an at-home, self-care routine that you can use to maintain all the gains you have made during our time working together. However, you also have the option of continuing with physiotherapy appointments at a reduced frequency to prevent relapse into old habits of movement, or to prevent development of compensatory movements. Also, you may also find yourself achieving goals that exceed expectations, motivating you to continue to progress with additional physiotherapy sessions.
