ABOUT ME

Educational Background
I came to Physiotherapy by way of Veterinary Sciences. As a Veterinary Nurse (Animal Health Technician), I was inspired by the remarkable outcomes I was seeing in my four-legged patients who received physiotherapy. My desire to learn more motivated me to return to school. I have since graduated with a Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta after completing an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary.
Advanced Physiotherapy Education
Within the Physiotherapy profession there are restricted activities that require advanced education, registration with our professional association, and authorization to perform these special techniques in practice. Since completing my degree, I have pursued further education to acquire expertise in the following areas:
Intramuscular stimulation (IMS): Kinetacore Functional Dry Needling
Manual and Manipulative Therapy: Orthopaedic Division Certification
Diagnostic Imaging: Licensed to order Radiographs (Xray), Ultrasound, & Private MRI
YOGA: Mindful Movement on the Horizontal
I have been practicing yoga since 2004 when I visited in Kosgoda, a small fishing village south of Columbo in Sri Lanka, where I had volunteered for a turtle conservation project. There, I was introduced to the physical and spiritual practice of yoga. Since then yoga has been a constant thread in my life. I am convinced that it is what has prevented overuse-related injuries in body despite years of hard play. After completing my degree in Physical Therapy, I began to explore how Eastern and Western traditions could be combined to produce the unique benefits of PhysioYoga.
My offering of PhysioYoga is a compilation of everything I have learned during16 years of personal yoga practice, self-study (numerous books, podcasts, videos, etc), formal 200 hr yoga teacher training with Nora Maskey and Alice Hong at the Inspired Yoga Institute, and my Masters degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta. I am currently participating in a 300 hr myofascial yoga training with Christine Wushke at Freely Human.
CLIMBING: Mindful Movement on the Vertical
The Climbing Clinic materialized from my passion for climbing, a sport I have pursued recreationally for years. As a Physiotherapist, I have been treating climbers for repetitive-use and climbing-related injuries. Many of the injuries I am seeing could have been avoided with some basic alignment awareness, preventive care routines, and self-management. Combining my professional knowledge of the body with my own experience of climbing technique, training cycles and self-care habits, the Climbing Clinic was born.
Like yoga, there is a mental and spiritual component to climbing that can not be separated from the body. My hope is to teach you to bring this mindful awareness into all your movements on the wall. I intend to be climbing mountains for the rest of my life and I wish give you the quality of movement to do the same!
Other Interests
When I was growing up, I was constantly outside and moving. Not much has changed… Over the course of my life I have been an ACA Certified kayak guide, a US Rowing Level II coach, and certified PADI Rescue Diver. I believe in ferociously celebrating life every chance I get, through absorbing myself into the world, interacting with my environment, and engaging with all its precious people. It is my greatest passion to help others do the same. In my spare time I can be found exploiting the mountains to their fullest with my incredible husband and daughter— hiking with our two dogs, running, rock climbing, all forms of skiing, mountain biking, or backpacking.
